Origin - Mangosteen’s Place of Origin

Mangosteen on the yard What is the natural home of the mangosteen really like? What do the mangosteen tree and fruit truly look like? Let’s explore the facts.

The growth of the mangosteen tree is slow and deliberate. The tree rarely bears fruit within the first ten years, but the trees will often live up to 100 years, providing an uncommonly long harvest lifetime. As the tree grows into adulthood, its uppermost branches will soar to more than 20 meters in height.

The trees are extremely sensitive to climate and temperate and must be grown in carefully selected locations. They cannot tolerate temperatures below freezing, drainage must be good and the soil must be rich-all requirements that make Southeast Asia the ideal location to harvest the mangosteen.
